Vineyards

Vineyards and grapes varieties

Very close to the sea, Pepe and Cirenaica are the two ancient grapes plots. Twelve hectares of land, particularly suitable to the cultivation of vine, which produce grapes in a very limited quantity and with high quality.
They are the family vineyards that hold all the winemaking history of the area: an old “trullo” house continues to tell the story of farmers’ life when, during their work in the fields, it was used as a shelter place during winter and as a dwelling during summer.
The six hectares of young vineyards instead are located all around the new Cellar.
Jorche primarily cultivates Primitivo, together with the other indigenous grapes from Salento such as Negramaro, Fiano Minutolo and Bianco D’Alessano.
Dedication of Jorche is to continue to operate in the aim of rescuing and valorising the indigenous grapes that through time have been neglected.

The exceptional synergy between land, climate and vine enhances the natural characteristics of the plant.

The Primitivo 'alberello'

Cultural heritage and Apulian biodiversity memory

Primitivo is a historical vine, one of the oldest of Puglia. Since the beginning, the traditional training system of this particular biotype has been the characteristic Apulian ‘alberello (little tree), typical of the Mediterranean culture.
The Primitivo ‘alberello’ brings an innate high quality since it supports without forcing the natural disposition of the plant, reduces the consumption of water and gives a very low but of high virtue yield of grapes.
The perfect balance between the particular kind of soil, climate and vines creates an ideal condition: the bunches are placed on the plant in an optimal way, well exposed to the sun but protected by excessive insolation and able to take also advantage from the heat of the earth.
In Salento, the old ‘alberello’ trees of Primitivo are the prestigious protagonist of its winemaking history and its landscape.
